Compact, tough and powerful—-we think you'll agree when you get your hands around the surprisingly small barrel of this grinder. It's so easy to grasp, and the two-position auxiliary handle lends great control and comfort, installed either on the right or the left. Right on top of the motor housing is the power switch; we like it there for convenience as well as safety. Its max no-load rpm is 10,000, plenty of power for whatever job is at hand, from sheet metal to blade sharpening or masonry. It's interesting, though, that Makita's ever-so-slightly smaller 4-inch grinder costs a bit less yet maxes at 11,000 rpm. An obvious advantage to this model, though, is the wide availability and range of attachments because of its standard size. We particularly like the spindle lock for quick, easy wheel changes, and the fact that it comes with a diamond blade means you can set this tool to work right out of the box. It's priced right and is a great choice for both the professional and the home do-it-yourselfer or hobbyist.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste
